The Next Chapter: Elevating the Antigua and Barbuda Cruise Experience
From a purpose-built homeporting terminal to an evolving duty-free waterfront district, Antigua Cruise Port continues to provide an experience that begins before guests step aboard and extends beyond the pier.
Homeporting is becoming an increasingly important part of Antigua and Barbuda’s cruise story and Antigua Cruise Port’s vision for the future.
A major milestone came in January 2026 with the unveiling of the port’s new purpose-built cruise terminal. The more than 10,000-square-foot facility provides dedicated space for passenger processing and turnaround operations, enhancing the journey for guests beginning and ending their cruise in Antigua and Barbuda.
Beyond the terminal, convenient airlift through V.C. Bird International Airport, ground transportation to the port, and collaboration among government, tourism, aviation and cruise partners continue to strengthen Antigua and Barbuda’s position as a choice gateway for Caribbean cruising.
For guests, homeporting creates another opportunity to experience the destination. Arrive before embarkation, explore Antigua and Barbuda before setting sail, or stay a little longer when the cruise ends – making the destination part of the holiday itself.
The new cruise terminal represents one phase of a much bigger transformation underway along the St. John’s waterfront. Surrounding the terminal, Antigua Cruise Port’s Upland Development is introducing a vibrant mix of retail and commercial spaces, foodand beverage experiences, leisure amenities and enhanced public areas, complementing the existing duty-free shopping districts of Heritage Quay and Redcliffe Quay.
For cruise guests, it means more opportunities to shop, dine, relax and experience Antigua and Barbuda just steps from their ship.
Across the construction site, the vision once captured in architectural renderings is steadily becoming reality. Global Ports Holding’s (GPH) continued investment not only enhances cruise infrastructure but creates new opportunities for local entrepreneurs and businesses to participate in the growth of the sector.
